    Questions about World Jewish Congress and WWII

    I was watching a you tube video on Himmler weeks ago with a production that seemed to say it's aired on the History channel or something similar in the past and was shocked when they reported that in the last day or two of the War that Himmler met with the world Jewish congress rep. and asked to bury the hatchet.
    Himmler was trying to weasel his way out of the hangman's noose but was told it was too late for that. That's when he committed suicide.

    This was the first time I'd heard the World Jewish Congress mentioned in a ligitimate history presentation. This raises some questions about things I've heard.
    Before this I almost believed more or less the World Jewish congress was a figment of some imaginations.

    Did a world Jewish Congress really declare war on Germany before WWII?

    Who made up this congress and what steps did they take against Germany to put teeth into the declaration of war?

    The group was founded in the late 1930's and was not at that time one of the bigger Jewish groups in terms of membership or resources, their "World" name notwithstanding. What they did have during World War II was a headquarters in Switzerland and a small leadership that had good contacts throughout Europe. The meeting between Himmler and the WJC representative did happen in Germany, in mid-April 1945. It was about Himmler trying to save his skin and the WJC trying to save what lives they could.
