Luftwaffe Ace Newspaper Article from 1964

Hello,
I was going through some of my boxes and I found this newspaper article from 1964 (the year I was born).

I find it interesting that either the veteran was padding his WWII career or the newspaper was making up the stuff. It appears someone mixed up this guys story with Hans Rudel (the sinking of the Marrat, the Diamonds, etc).

A guy with that amount of combat missions would be entitled to, at least, the DKiG in a Stuka unit. I never heard of his name.

There are two alternatives: (1) someone bragging about his military achievements or (2) the newspaper report made a huge confusion mixing general remarks about his unit and WWII story with his personal account of the war.

There must have been an omission of him losing a leg and still flying, unless he simply got a transplant after the war.

Apparently the phony people posing as war heroes isn't something that just got started. I know of two men that claimed to be Vietnam Veterans and it wasn't until they died and their family tried to get them a veteran headstone that it came out that neither had ever been in the military at all.

Hello,

I have visited Arnhem just about every year since 1992 for the commemoration service they hold there in memory of those lost during the battle in September 1944.

I first met this particular "Veteren" back then and each year we would hook up and we would have a beer.

Around 2 years back he was ousted as a fakethis bloke had never served at Arnhem

I found out later that he had been turning up for these events long before I ever met him........unbelievable.
