German Royalty, Where are they now?

The end of WWI in 1918 was the end of German royalty in the German States. Obviously, these people had descendents. History tends to trail off quickly once the first generation of these descendents passed away.

The United States has societies for descendents of some of our past leaders such as Thomas Jefferson. Does Germany have such organizations?

Are any descendents prominant members of German Society today?

If you can contribute, please add to the thread.

    Regards

    Carl C

Current head of the Imperial House of Hohenzollern and therefore the claimant of the thrones of the German Empire and Kingdom of Prussia (great-great-grandson of Wilhelm II).

Here is a video of him at Huis Doorn:

Very interesting. Also, I noticed the protracted legal battles between the various alleged heirs to the Prussian throne, with a reference to a final court ruling that determined some of the current Prussian King's uncles as being entitled to share (with the King) "a portion of the Prussian inheritance."

Do these guys have any assets to fight over, i.e. does the Prussian Royal Family have an (inherited) royal wealth such as castles, jewels, etc? I have always assumed that due to the various wars, regime changes, etc., any such royal property had been forfeited and would be property of the German state(s) and/or federal governments.

Nonono - the German State has nothing to do with their private property.

Nonetheless some aristocratic families auctioned from time to time some parts of their goodies (and not so goodies) like the Hohernzollern family did as well and especially Ernst August from Hannover - his family is indeed directly related to the Royal Family of the UK and the British Army for example helped to get interieur objects out of a castle which fell under russian control in the middle east of the Reich.

There were several auctions held by Sotheby´s and they were very successful.

                Thorsten,

What you say makes sense: the Prussian Royal Family must indeed have some "goodies" to fight over, as most people would not expend what must have been substantial sums on attorneys' fees in the German court litigation, just to fight it out over who gets the ceremonial title of "King".

Any idea what sort of "goodies" Kaiser Wilhelm II's heirs have?

All the european nobility has links to each other. That's how alliances and diplomacy worked once. I think Boris Johnson is related to German nobility?

In fact there's a well known actor and comedian in the UK that can trace his line directly back to William the conqueror himself.

I dont know all the various ranks and titles of the german nobility (or for that matter the austro-hungarian) but the wehrmacht was full of princes, counts, knights and what have you.

Prince Fredrich von Anhalt is married to Zsa Zsa Gabor and lives
                        in Hollywood.

Greg, I looked up Prince Fredrich von Anhalt on wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fr%C3%A...inz_von_Anhalt Certainly an interesting person but personally I would not consider him royalty. His page on Wikipedia does have some interesting links to other wikipedia pages regarding German Royalty and his own personal site.

On a sad note, Zsa Zsa is very ill.

The von Anhalt's have absolutely no credibility anymore, in light of recent events.
