Hi Marc, I should have added a comment earlier on how enjoyable it has been to see these photos and documents The barge with the Flak 88's was a great photo.

        News

QUICK, someone give me CPR and restart my heart! My Aunt called to say she had found an old box of my grandfather's. She thinks it has some items from the war. She was going to throw it out but thought I MIGHT want it! I have plane tickets for September...

            Thanks,
But if all I find is something to remind me of Opa (and I have hundreds of photos), I will consider myself lucky....

Where are you going to be in GErmany? If you're anywhere near the Eifel, drop a note, we can have a Bitburger.

                              Update

                              All,

Well I am back from Stuttgart and have many wonderful photos to share. Some of Opa and others of the rest of the family. I had no idea how many family members were fighting in the war and my family was very lucky. Of about a dozen family in active service we only lost two. So enjoy the shots and I will keep them coming.
                              Regards,
                              Marc

To start us off is the ONLY photo I have of my grandfather and his brother together in uniform. Opa is on the left and Heinrich is on the right. Based on Opa's rank this would be when he was on leave sometime in 1941 before he went to radar school in Berlin and his brother would go to Russia and earn his EK2 and Frozen Meat medal. The women (except for my great-grandmother)are all still alive as is the young boy with the wild grin in the center rear - he is now a Catholic priest. The girl in front of him is now a nun:

                                Achtung Panzer!

Here is a cousin, and he is still alive. Please look atthe rank insignia and tell me what you can learn from it:
