has anyone here heard of her ?

Grunter von Haart (spelling is correct), should be called the top ace of WW II; in Italy she was accredited with 168 kills, and a possible 39 kills over a nine month engagement. She states: "When in the air, in combat, all I think about is how best to kill the enemy." [See, "Ace of One ," By. Grunter von Haart, Olympic Press 1968, pages 112 - 113]. By far this women out shines most other fighter pilots in that theater. In 1967, she became a naturalized American Citizen, and died in 1991 at the ripe old age of 96 years. Her legacy of being called the first female ace in Germany is in concrete as she was awarded the Iron Cross First Class by Hitler himself, in 1943, and later received a prison sentence by the Americans.

trying to find info, but nothing! supposedly fact? but I don't see it....curious?

A total work of fiction IMO.
There were only two female Iron Cross 1st Class recipients; Test pilot Hanna Reitsh and DRK Sister Else Grossmann.

Hi Ray, I think there would be more readily available info on her if she was genuine, as David correctly points out there were only two females awarded the EK1 we would certainly know about a third

Maybe it is a reference to the sounds she made?

                          Interesting
The age thing, she was in her late forties, a scurge of the skys and all dressed up in her uniform, leather boots () with an Iron Cross pinned on her heaving chest. Bet she could down the beers too. Man, thats my kind of FRÄULEIN !!

I did a bit of surfing on the net. Found some amusing rubbish about American Bomber pilots being "frightened" to fly the B29 untill shown how to by the female deliverers and "Male pilots, wanting to avoid being sent to the Pacific, lobbied hard for the duties the WASPs were performing". Penned by a man hater and used in schools for educational purposes. Under the title 'References' Books all writtern by female authors. More male bashing again even when it comes to history.
                          Ray
I counld,nt find anything about female German Combat pilots WW2 with the exception of Turkey’s Sabiha Gokcen, Soviet women were the only ones who flew in actual combat, looks like.

                          Cheers
                          Eric
