Ghetto remains

I was very moved when I came across this building while walking round Warsaw in July. It was surrounded by modern buildings including a number of Jewish restaurants.

Wielka synaogogue. The only remaining synagogue in Warsaw. It survived the war because it was used as a horse stable by the Germans.

The area now occupied by this famous blue skycraper from Warsaw, was once occupied by the Great Synagogue, the biggest one in Warsaw. After the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, on May 16, 1943 the SS Jürgen Stroop blew up the building with explosives. It was not rebuilt after the war.
