Maybe this trip to Treblinka was one of the most special ones for me, even more than Auschwitz. The access to the camp is not easy. If it wasn't for my Polish friend (thanks again), it would have been impossible to be there. The place were one of the Aktion Reinhard extermination camps was erected, is now a big green field surrounded by a dense wooded area. Silence is the protagonist, always broken by the sign of the birds. Nobody could imagine that 1000000-1400000 people were mass murdered there. Now there's also a memorial with plenty of stones. Near the main camp area, we can find the penal labour camp of Treblinka, for workers of the quarry which was located some 500 m away from the camp. The main camp was dismantled and a farm for an Ukrainian farmer was built there using the materials of the barracks and the crematories with the intention of hiding the camp. But the penal labour camp is perfectly visible, as many of the foundations are still there, indicated with signs. There's also a tiny museum with some items found in the area.
A typical Polish village near Treblinka. Some of those wooden houses were owned by jews before their prosecution.
