    I haven't made it there . . . yet.

Out of historical interest, I thought about driving there when visiting Salzburg, long ago . . . funny thing is, the rest of the party felt more iclined to drive to another nearby town that day - all for a humorous photo opportunity. Wound up getting lost, trying to find a street-sign for F**cking, Austria . . . and never made it to either place. It wasn't a total loss - we managed to find a good bierstube that served awesome food . . . but since then, I've always hoped one day I might get another chance to satisfy my historical curiosity - and see what the huff about that tiny little house in Braunau is all about. Judging by everyone's expectations, it seems I may never get that opportunity . . . Let's hope someone has a little sense, and the Austrian's find a way to keep it around.

That reads like the government is honoring Stalin. But isn't it the opposite ? Isn't it turned into an "anti-stalin plaque" by adding the explanatory text ?

Forgetting to mention a fact for the reason to create a wrong or misleading statement is distortion.

the second is a foot note dragged from soviet loving left politicians here....you have to live hear...every day something from them is espoused in the papers on tv etc..trying to humiliate and denegrate the populace by dragging up THEIR version of German defeat and talk like dirty traitors to the Austrian German peoples...quite filthy talk.....constant....same old ww2 clips of the camps...same old showing of sequence Hitler clips....the people are sick of it.

I noticed this in today's 'Melbourne 'Herald-Sun' newspaper (July 14th):-
          Page 26.

          Austria. Hitler birth house grab.

Austria's government has seized the house where Adolf Hitler was born, to prevent it falling into neo-Nazi hands.

Years of negotiating with the owner of the house in Braunau am Inn - where Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 - have proved fruitless.

Owner Gerlinde Pommer, who refused to allow the property to be rebuilt, sold or let, received 3800 UK Pounds a month to keep it empty. A government official said it would now be turned into a museum to honour victims of Hitler's Nazis.

it is still not clear what they are going to do.
They appointed a 12 members committee to discuss it and to make a decision.

Anyone have a timeframe for this may happen? I feel a long weekend coming on!

If sobotka and his fellow pigs cannot find a suitable law they will make one up and force it through parliament...thats what a modern Austria and Germany does these days...historic monuments are a blight to these philistines....no worry or care that the family Pommer has owned over 100 years...just to desyroy is all they know how to do...so called protected status means NOTHING in Austrian and German eyes.

Very distressing to see this historical structure under siege to appease PC idiots.

Berlin is littered with Soviet memorials....it sickens me that the Russian soldiers are placed above those of the fallen German in their own country...I hope someone soon petitions for that architectural garbage to be torn down...

You have to live here to see the daily hipocracy and double standards that the Left exerts...well not for long hopefully a new President will reverse that marxist credo

I love Austria..the people..traditions..language..culture. I spent a summer studying German at Klessheim just outside Salzburg...then a year at the University of Innsbruck ..and lived a second year in Vienna...I had an apartment there. I remember even in the early 80's it was quite taboo to discuss such things. Its rather sad that the state thinks they can destroy a building and thus somehow erase a part of history, it does not alter the fact Hitler was born there..and never will. Best to keep such places remembered..then to pretend they did not happen...in some sort of Orwellian attempt to control the past..and thereby control the future. The thought police it seems are quite alive and well..just as they were in the 1930's.

So here I am - way out in the middle of the New Mexican desert . . . witnessing the destruction of 2000 year-old petroglyphs - and I wake up to discover another threat of destruction to history. I still have trouble believing Austria would make such a poor decision . . . but in this day and age, I guess anything is possible.

I would have little doubt that the ultimate outcome, even while the negotiations were taking place, was always intended to be the destruction of the house. It's the same here--no matter if it's legal or illegal, the authorities will do what they want.

Everyone knows that Germans don't were by far the worst. The most brutal of the Nazi era (different guards in the concentration camps) were just the Austrians and the various villagers with an IQ of 20 from countries such as Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Croatia, etc ..
