Salerno isn't far away, get the relevant After the Battle magazine edition as i did for a guide . A day trip to Monte Cassino is easily doable.

Otherwise..forget WWII and go for Roman remains, Pompeii and Herculaneum are a must.

Yes! - Also the archiological museum at Naples, wich hosts the best relics found at both lost towns.

Go to Cassino if you can, otherwise enjoy the other sites of Sorrento.

I hope things have changed in the last 10 years but when we visited the archaeological museum in Naples we were disappointed to find the exhibit captions were in Italian only.

Still well worth a visit as it has some of the most famous Roman exhibits in the world, like the well known Alexander the great mosaic and gladiator helmets.

If you like your Roman stuff there are also ruins in Sorrento. A day boat trip to Capri is also worth it.

I have been there in 2004, and all was well expainend, also you get now the multi-language headsets.

Some exibits explain themself, like the "secret erotic room"...

The mosaic of Alexander the great was very special to me, as it was on the cover of my latin-school-book ages ago...

Yeah the 'secret erotic room' is well worth a look

Goes well with a visit to Pompeii's lupanare (brothel)..they really should do some living history displays there

                          Camerata,
When you are in Sorrento, looking for WWII seems odd, you will find an Fascist Emblems on the Sea Wall, but when there you will ask Why go to Russia?, and it will seem odd that once lots of odd little men in Black Uniforms gave it large there.... I love the place.

Enjoy... History, Good Food, Good Wine, Good Beer... Heaven.

Even the Organ's of State Terror will enjoy..... most important, mine did.

just checking in, it was a great honeymoon and visited a lot of sites.
Rome, capri, Monte cassino, pompei, vesuvius and other places.
Thanks to all for their help, missed the erotic room though

One thing that saddens me though is the desire of people to scratch there name into buildings 2000 yrs old

Also if your going to excavate it then cover it over as its just flaking away im not sure how long it will last
