Hi to clarify the the Berlin Flak towers only 2 partially remain, i guess they gave up on trying to fully destroy them. They are Humboldthain and friedrichshain, the Zoo tower the most famous was completly destroyed by the British. Hamburg still has 2 complete towers.Brian

The Berlin 'Underworld' Tours were heavily advertised when I was in Berlin. However it still didnt make me take up their tours. Has anyone been with them before?

                Flak Towers

I am very stunned to see how MASSIVE are those Flak Towers. They are absolutely HUGE!!!! They poured lots of concrete to build those flak towers in Berlin,Hamburg and Vienna. They used foreign labor besides the German workers to build the massive concrete flak towers. Yes,they are very difficult to demolish due to massive amount of concrete used in the flak towers. The walls are at least 4 or 5 meters thick which was withstand the artillery and bomb attacks. Thanks much for posting pictures of Vienna Flak Towers!

I found out about them through a show on the History Channel and it looked interesting. I had planned on checking them out when I go to Berlin this year. There is even a tour of unused/closed subway stations which is supposed to be very good (friend of mine went on that tour).

                    Thanks for posting the pictures!

There is an interesting guidebook from the "Past Finders" series on Berlin. I'll check if there's anything on the Flakbunker in there. (It is also available in English in bookstores in the Berlin area.)

You HAVE to do this tour! - Unbelivable, we started at the subway-station "Gesundbrunnen" (in viewing distance to a FLAK-tower), went down the stairs to the train, as hundreds of other people - but halfway down we went through a normal door - and you are 65 years back in time. Everything is still there, from beds to toilets, from mural paintings and posters, lockers, signs and letters on the walls, etc.
