Excellent presentation. Being an avid War in the Pacifc player, and just having had Darwin taken by the Japs this thread has raised a smile. Well done.

When the war made it to Australia, not very long after Pearl Harbour's attack, great presentation Paul, and superbly photographed as usual mate ! Not too many are aware of the Japanese air raids on several of the coastal Australian cities early in the Pacific war, from Darwin to Broome, and even Townsville in North Queensland suffered several bombing raids too.
After the Darwin raid, the population headed south in record numbers and very quickly too, and the dry humour called it the Adelaide River stakes after a horse race of the time !

My mother remembered a Japanese aircraft launched from a submarine off Melbourne flying over the city sometime in 1942, with AA firing on it, and not hitting it, and the damage from the bursting AA shells doing all the damage to rooftops etc, and Melbourne is a long way from Darwin !!
