Fire Arms deact. Ban in UK ?

Following up on Steve's earlier post in firearms section.
Any potential ban on firearms deactived weapons in the Uk is bound to have a huge impact on re-enactment groups , War and Peace Show etc.

Can the goverment be sure that any ban will protect or accomadate the genuine collectors / re-enactment groups ?
I know I am talking as if it has already or is about to happen...the about to is not so far away ... I give it 6 months .

Seems quite reasonable and proper to me based on past legislation.
No political party in this country supports the private ownership of firearms.

Most if not all legislation on firearms comes from the advice given by a bunch of clowns known as the Association of Chief Police Officers. Their advice is given to cover up the many cock-ups made by the Police when licencing individuals such as Michael Ryan who committed the Hungerford massacre. Also the man responsible for the Dunblane massacre was reported to the police for threatening a woman with a shotgun, action taken-none. Police incompetence has been at the heart of incidents that have led to a change in our national laws.

In the good old days when I possessed a firearms certificate, upon one renewal I was told by the police officer inspecting my security arrangements that 'people like you scare me, I'd hate to be involved in a shoot-out with someone who has had more practice than me' He wasn't impressed when I said I learnt to shoot in the armed forces, probably was a better shot than him and would pass on his concerns to his Chief Constable. He's the sort of guy that scares me, probably the sort that shoots dead someone for carrying an unloaded table leg in a brown wrapper.

On another note, it is also frightening to see the cavalier attitude to weapons displayed by police at our airports. MP5s waved all over the place, pointed at all and sundry, who trains these idiots?

    Rant over
