One of the true heroes of WW2 has died: Knut Haugland

Hi Guys, what with Christmas etc the news of his death seems to have been overlooked. If you don't recognise the name straight away, I know you will have heard of the "Heroes of Telemark":

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obit...-Haugland.html

I never knew he was part of Thor Heyerdahl’s Kon-Tiki expedition.

    He was aged 92. RIP.

    Cheers, Ade.

It's to such people as Knut, we owe the priceless debt of freedom over tyranny.

Amazing, in today's world some drugged up celebrity overdoses and it's days of endless front page coverage and news reporters fawning on the "grieving" fake friends....

Then you have a man who gave everything he had to secure freedom for people who would most likely never even know him.......... and it's briefly recounted in the Mil Obit section.

Gives you pause to remember who the true hero's are !!!!

I was familiar with elements of his varied, life, but I didn't realize the breadth of what he accomplished, other than the Kon-Tiki and the raid.

              Certainly a life well lived!

Can anyone recommend a good book on the hydro raid, planning and implementation?

He is no doubt resting soundly in Valhalla! Go well!

Aside from the war the rafting thing tooks balls the size of Brazil. I am still amazed they were not killed.

And a true hero as you said.
I'v been lucky to meet them some years ago(the heroes of Telemark that is).

                    But more sad new.
Jens-Anton Poulsson have also passed away.
Yeasterday he died at an age of 91 .

He was in the army until 1982 when he retired.
And was busy in his big hobby and interset that was fishing and hunting after many years of service.

Heres a link to a norwegian paper:
                    http://www.dagbladet.no/2010/02/02/n...fall/10210442/

The picture is from the paperlink.
And was taken in 1964 when they were all togheter again at the heavy water plant the did blow up.
From left til right is : Jens Anton Poulsson, Knut Haukelid, their guide Larsen(in 64) and Knut Lier Hansen og Knut M. Haugland

Another hero passes. I had the great pleasure to meet with Jens-Anton Poulsson last year and sat next to him during lunch, he had great recall of those events so many years ago. I will post a couple of pictures. RIP a fine Norwegian warrior. With respect, Clive.
