    CMOH Winner Robert Howard

Not a WW2 vet, but one hell of a soldier. Nominated for the Medal of Honor 3 times. You can only receive it once, which he did. Also, a recepient of the Distinquished Service Cross, the Silver Star and 8 Purple Hearts. Rest in peace old soldier.

Just for accuracy's sake......This old wardog's name was Bob Howard. I had the honor and privilege of shooting an interview with him at a gathering of MOH recipients, a while back.....

Still tough in his late 60's, but with an engaging personality and a truckload of both humility and dignity.

Thanks for bringing him to our attention, Jack.

    Rest easy, Soldier.....
I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.....

Hi. did they change the regs on this as some did receive it twice -- Dan Daly etc. It might be they changed this.

I've never heard that one could only receive the award once. As stated above, there are examples of men who received it twice.

Could you please post a source on that?

On the other hand, since the government has only been giving it to dead people nowadays, I suppose it would be hard to earn a second award.

There have been double awards and I believe it is possible, however improbable now, that it could be awarded more than once to the same indivisual. For a second award, the recipient is not supposed to get a second medal, but gets the appropriate device that indicates the subsequent award.

Not to upset anyone but this title would p.o. some of the Medal of Honor recepients. I understand that the decoration is the "Medal of Honor" and congress has nothing to do with it. Several have said that they did not "win" the medal, it wasn't a lottery, they were awarded it for deeds.

Correct.....Although stating that Congress has nothing to do with it is not QUITE accurate.
The decorations' official title is "Medal of Honor", but is referred to informally as the "Congressional Medal of Honor", because it is bestowed by Congress. That designation is etched on the reverse of the medal. (I've taken a photo, and attached it.....)

Denny is correct.....To a man, all of the MOH recipients that I have spoken with say the same thing.....They were simply doing their jobs, and that the men who DESERVE the decoration, are the ones who gave their lives, in battle.

                    Cheers,
                    Bob.

I am sorry Bob, but you are misreading this passage re: more than one award. The true meaning has to do with individuals receiving two medals of honor for the excact same action. For instance getting the navy and army medal of honor for the same thing which happened occasionally long ago. It has absolutely nothing to do with a man like Bob Howard who was nominated three times for three different actions. He could have received three MOHs for these actions, in fact, he received the MOH for the third nomination. IMO the first two were even more impressive!
                          best wishes,
                          jeff
