No, not really. Merscheid and Hoscheid is near Nachtmanderscheid. Goebelsmühle is in the Saur Gorge and is basically just a hamlet.

Tintange the and now

Ok guys, the journey continues. This time we have Tintange, a small Belgian village which got heavely involved in the fighting. This is a then and now photo taken Dec. 23 1944 and in December 2009. Thanks to my good friend Peter Vandersmissen, who helped to track down the correct place. Tintange saw heavy fighting and was also shelled by artillery as well as air strikes. Most of the town had to be rebuilt after the war.

was he assigned to the 5. Fallschirmjagerdiv. ?
Did he made it back after the battle to the vicinity of pruem?
Any informations would be great.

Yes, he was a battle hardened veteran who fough first in FJR 3 at the New Front, later jumped into Sicily fought in Italy and the first Battle of Cassino. Saw the air strike of the monastry and was transfered to I./FJR 15.

he fought in Normandy in the Mont Castre and after that in the Battle of the Bulge. After that he fought in the Harz and survived the war. He died November 2008. he was a good friend of mine.

He served in our village then, when he was assigned to the FJRgt15.

Today 65 years ago - The Battle of the Bulge started

Well, today 65 years ago, elements of FJR 15 crossed the river Our near Vianden.

The first pics is taken 07.30 A.M in 2006 and shows one of the bridges (Steinbogenbrücke ) over the Our near Vianden. Here some boats of the paratroopers of Fallschirmpionier Btl 5 overturned due to flood and some troopers drawned. This was the crossing point mainly for 1st Btl / FJR 15 together with the bridge in the town itself.

The whole 15th Rgt crossed the river Our also on a damaged railroad bridge. Further down at Roth and der Our was a Poton-bridge which was buid by Fallschirm-Pioniere of the Fsch Pi. Btl 5, This bridge was called "The Gröschke Bridge". The photo shows the bridge in the town Vianden it self and was taken in Dec. 2006
