This is some of the best stuff on this forum. Absolutely great. I wish there was an entire sub-forum for these kinds of "now and then" threads.

Thanks for taking the time to post these great, educational pictures. I'm addicted.

Hi Bigschuss, thanks...many of my Then&Now works are in the "Fallschirmjäger " and "Photos and Paper Items" rooms, if you want to see.
        cheers

Marco...after just returning from a trip to Munich, Nuremberg, Salzberg and the Obersalzberg, to see your then & now pics of Munich was fantastic. I took pics of many of the places you depict but I didn't try to duplicate the angles as you did. Your attention to detail makes the comparison that much more interesting. Thanks for posting.

Fantastic pics Marco ... thanks a lot

One correction has to be made, the correct spelling of the town where GRÖFAZ
was born is "Braunau" and not Branau

Brilliant! I doubt that many of the people walking by have any idea of the tumultuous and world shattering events that happened in these places!

When visiting such places I love to sit down and soak up the history - you can almost touch it.

The photographs are execellent, especially the viewpoint - for it is not just the subject, it is the fact that you stand on the same ground and see the same view as the original photographer!

Thank God that the Austrians haven't ripped all these buildings down.

Brilliant Then and Now Marco. SOme great shots. One small correction, the Braun Haus no longer exists. This is what it used to look like. It was on Brienner Strasse, near Karolinenplatz. In 2005 there was just a big gap there but I believe something is being built in the spot now. The building shown on your photo is the Verwaltungsbau (spelling) where I believe the Munich agreement was signed. It has a twin building on the other side of the junction, the Fuhrerbau (or is it the other way round?)

This period postcard shows the Verwaltungsbau and Fuhrerbau on the left and the right of the 2 Ehrentempel. The Braun Haus is behind the left-hand Ehrentempel.
