Hi Stuart, these pics are great! Thank you for posting them. There are some interesting shots. The fake insignia made by SOE is nice. I went last year, but at the time I did not have a digital camera. You have photographed several items that I would have liked to have done.

I went to Duxford myself a few weeks ago with some Dutch friends, but forgot to take the camera

    Cheers, Ade.

thanks Ade, glad you enjoyed the pics. i forgot to take my camera to the military odessy so i know how much of a bummer that is. couldnt get a disposable cam for love nor money

the iwm is a great day out and for a total cost of nothing also represented good value aswel, we went on sunday when there is no charge for parking and of course admission is free. i live bang in between duxford and lambeth, about an hour each way. so there was no great hardships in getting there either, so there is really no excuse for not going in over 10 years. i did however go to duxford at the tail end of last summer and had a really good time, the land warfare hall is well cool. must get up there and give the cam a good workout.

Hi Stuart, you have some great photos from the IWM (I love those Fallschirmjager helmets!). I must admit I haven't paid a visit to lambeth for some years now and after seeing your photos it certainly inspires the old collecting enthusiasm! You will enjoy Duxford too, it is well worth a day out. Thanks for posting the photos.
        Regards Richard.
Always looking for Luftwaffe Kampfflieger related document groups. In particular anything to Kampfgeschwader 2.

...Anybody noticed the Schmidt-Ehmen eagle from Hitler's bureau in the Reichschancellery.

I would trade anything for that one....

Pieter--I agree! I saw the traveling show from the Russian Army museum a few years ago and they also have a Schmidt-Ehmen eagle from the front of the Kanzlei! They also had armed guards and the visitors had to walk through metal detectors before entering. Fantastic pieces!

hi, the little plaque that was on the wall next to it said it was from the Reichschancellery, it was huge standing at about 6feet and must of had a wingspan of about 8 feet!those little dings on its chest and wings are bullet dents, the bricks that it is set in are full size.

even in the original un-downsized photo its a bit blurry to read the plaque so i cant be more specific. but i think it says "bronze eagle from the german Reichs chancellery......"

                    KM eagle

                    Stuart,

There are 2 eagles, is the one with a Kriegsmarine soldier from a specific ship? Or also one from a building, and just coincidence that a KM soldier stand next to it?

I have also been to the IWM, but can't remember seeing those. It's been some years now, so perhaps they change the collection every one and then?

If you think that most museum have their collection in stock, then the IWM must have many more very interesting items...

                    Kind regards,

                    Maurice

hello Maurice, i'm afraid i dont know. all i can add is that the eagle next to the km guy is housed in a entirely naval themed display and the preceding three photos are from the same cabinet. there was also models of various battleships there aswel.
i agree that they must have some real treasures hidden away, coincidently we parked round some back streets and had to walk past the iwm archives building nearby, and wondered what goodies were inside

What's even more surprising, another picture shows a photo album from somebody on Z-28. He, I also have a photo album from somebody on that ship! And O, he is also boxing.... Exactly the same name...I wonder how that is possible, I aquired the album some years ago...

                        Kind regards,

                        Maurice

The third Reichskanzlei eagle, if I'm not mistaken, is on display at the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio on the grounds of Wright Patterson AFB.
