The spot with the Maginot bunkers and tunnels was great because there you had this sort of layer cake of military history. The ruins of the 19th century barracks, the maginot installations on top of those the German trenches and bunker remains from 1945. All of it in a stunningly beautiful national park.Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

Simon, there was also fighting there earlier, in 1793 I think; and they discovered many remains of that war when they were building the barracks in the 19th century and the Maginot forts. Apparently they found some bodies too.

Yes indeed, I think the same thing.

Awesome photos, those mountains are absolutely beautiful and many thanks for sharing I nearly find these photos more interesting than collecting. So I have to ask, were you able to look any further into that "boulder"?Interested in the Gendarmerie - Schutzpolizei - Gemeinden - Feuerschutzpolizei - Wasserschutzpolizei - Etc. Looking For Anything Polizei Related!

You can sense the deep history of these places seeping out of the photographs. The feeling must be a 1000 times stronger actualy being there. Great thread Gentlemen, I had know idea of the mine clearing POW's and the losses they endured, it's very sad especialy when you think that they must have thought the bloodshed was finaly finished and they were going home.
