    Another Kubel Rising

    Hello-
Right now I'm building a Kubelwagen Replica from Kooblekar in New Mexico. The "donor" is a 1968 VW bug with a 1600 cc engine from a 1971 Karmann Ghia. This is a all metal kit that came in pre cut pieces. Alot of work went to making the pieces fit during the building process. Hope to start painting the body by the end of the year. I will be using the vehicle for reenacting events. Will keep you guys updated, until then take care. Please click on the link below for the pictures of the project, thanks.

Jason, if you had it to do over again, would you buy the parts and do-it-yourself or would you have them assemble one? I see where they want over $16,000 for an assembled one.

This sort of thing always reminds me of the Schwimmwagen I found on a scrap heap in Rhodes, Greece, in 1984. It was complete, except for the wheels.

I would still do it myself because:
            - Cheaper
            - Changes I was able to make to the kit, to make it look more original.
            - Knowing the work and items that go into the car.

But I had to alot of things to iron out before taking on the project. I wanted to make sure I could do it. For example:
            - Place to do it
            - Skilled help (my friend)
            - Equipment, material and tool costs needed. For example, welding equipment.
            - And got lucky with having a Kooblekar (Kubelwagen) to look at close to where I live.

                Kubel Project update

                Hello all-
It has been a long time since I updated this thread. Here is a link on my facebook page showing the recent pics I took of my Kubel project:

Also the company who made the kit for me is now known as kubelkraft.com
They made the basic kit for me, but I'm ordering alot of other parts from Europe, original and replica parts. Trying to get a MG-34 fir it the first week of April, if the deal happens. Will keep you guys posted,

                  Why the name change

I wonder? I had read on a couple other forums about poor customer service. I saw one of the Kubelkraft Kubelwagen for sale on ebay a few months ago for 15K. The car looks great on the website.
