    Pow portadown,co.armagh,n.ireland

    Hi,
    i was in my libarary the other day when i read interesting articals from ww11 about pow`s.

    The first was about my old principle at millington primary school.it read;jim barscill(my old principle)was a teacher at church street primaryschool.one day in late 1945 he took a group of children on a nature trial to the nearby band meadows.whilst there a young child asked who the men in the grey uniforms were.?mr barscill replied german pow`s.they were being escourted by armed british soldiers over the edenderry bridge in portadown 8 men a breast,back to their camp after having repaired the town air rAId shelter.....

    The second artical was sader;

    it read;whilst 20 german pow`s and 3 british escourts were on there wayback from carring out work in portadown along the gilford road near the knockbridge junction their lorry crashed killing 1 young german pow and seriously injuring others.it went onto say that the GERMAN commandant off the camp praised the people of portadown for helping and their kindness in relation to the accident.(it is not known who the young soldier was or where he is buried.).!!

    Jon..
