Border Germany / Fance upper floor of my hotel

Due to my work I travel quite a bit thrue Europe. Last week I was in a hotel on the border of Germany and France (Saarlouis).
There were some excavations in the centre of town. It looked like the found pieces of the old fortress from ww1.

The neext day after a few beers in the bar, the hotel owner and me talked about the house next to the hotel. It was still heavilly damaged from ww2. He also told me that he collected ww2 items himself.
Due to his age (86) i guess it was more sentiment than collecting....
He invited me to see a small part of his collection in a small room on the upper floor. His Schwimwagen and a deuce an a half were in a bodyshop, but still had some thing to show me.

Please note that these pictures were taken by mobilephone and in a rush (my collegue's were waiting for me to get some dinner). Yes I know, you've seen better pic's etc. but this is quit a disireble moment for a collector like me. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Can you ask your old friend for more information on these blankets, how old they are really? I have the same exact blanket and I have been trying to get rid of it.

On a picture we can see a Vauban building, maybe the fortress you're talking about is older than ww1 ?

For the collection, if he isn't really collecting, that mean that he found all pieces near the city ? (otherwise, there is 700km between Saarlouis and and St-Mère-Eglise, so how found him the st-Mère-Eglise signboard ?)

Hey,

He's also a collector. Most objects were found in and around his town. Some things he brought back from working in europe in the 60's.
