Association to Recover the Fallen in Eastern Europe

VBGO (Verein zur Bergung Gefallener in Osteurope) - Vermisst in Stalingrad
or Association to Recover the Fallen in Eastern Europe - Missing in Stalingrad.

A 5 part video on Youtube regarding the recovery of German war dead in and around Stalingrad today. It is in German, but for those of you that don't speak it, you will see how hard of a job it is. There are two or three inteviews with the families after remains are identified. If that does not bring a lump to ones throat, The dump outside of town of remains does.

VBGO recovers on average 7,000 sets of remains every year. But due to the length of time that has passed they are only able to identifiy 25%. A difficult job that brings closure to an ever decreasing pool of immediate family.

What are the kinds of opportunities to join them in their efforts? As someone who has German family who fought, I am indeed very interested in this. Is there any way to join the Kriegsgraeberfuersorge group?

I haven't really been able to get much information on this topic.

      Thanks for the links!

Thank you for posting the You Tube link.

I contribute to the VDK but was unaware of the VBGO.

Very interesting video. My uncle was killed near Orel, after Kursk, and never recovered. Perhaps one day his remains will be discovered.
