    Need help with a schemel

    Hello!

I am looking for dimensions of the common German stool aka schemel for my barracks impression - does anyone have these by chance or would be kind enough to measure theirs?

    Thanks!

      Hello,

there is on in an auction at the moment. You could ask the seller or buy it.

I have seen a couple different schemels in historical pictures. Most of my buds and I have gone to the Ikea schemel. $12.00, replace screws with dowls and cut the handhole.

Page 29 of Red Shines the Sun show the ikea type schemel, they are dead on.

            Grüß Gott Mike,

I agree with Greg...go with the Ikea Schemel or build your own from the plans from Der Erste Zug. Here is my Ikea Schemel at a recent encampment:

Wow - now this is a resurrection!

Back in December of 2003, I grew frustrated and combed through old photos to finally find two different designs - which are illustrated in doughboy's links. Through trial and error over that holiday period, I came up with 2 different schemels - and have employed them since.

The Ikea versions are nice and certainly affordable. I just do not like the very modern appearance of the finish and wood.....and, they weren't readily available for me at the time!

              thanks guys.

The Ikea one is unfinished, you can stain them or wax them to make them look different. The great thing is a unit can get these and it's easy to have two for guests. A guy in our unit makes awesome schemels but they are $50 and he's the sole-source (and gone for two years)

it does not appear to have a grey paint on underneath just a nice 'yucky' cream colour thats coming off shortly!
