Sniper on the eastern front

Yesterday I met a young man working for the same company as myself. We was having a cup of coffee when he told me about his grandfathers war experience. The grandfather was 17 years old when he joined a panzerdiv. he had training in Holland and was later wounded in Italy. After that he was transfered to sniper school and served in russia and the young man think he was in Italy again when the war ended. I've asked him to find out more about his grandfather and he will visit him to the summer.
By the way, his grandfathers name is König. Ring a bell?

It isn't an uncommon name. Here it is spelled Koenig and I know a bartender named Joe Koenig and there is a car dealership named Koenig nearby.

Maybe you can ask him if he ever got a sniper patch?

He is visiting his grandfather in july/august and will ask if he still have his soldbook, awards, uniform or pictures. Talked with the young man again and he said that his grandfather was in a halftrack in the panzerdiv. Wounded in Italy on a island he didn't knew the name of.
I hope he will find out more after the visit.
