Anyone been there that knows the times and days open and details if you have to book a tour or just show up and groups go up or persons individually.

I was there last Fall . . . it was not what I expected, but still very nice. If you arrive early enough, climb up to it, rather than taking the bus . . . then take the bus back down - this way you will better appeciate the scenery, and find all kinds of nice little "gems" that most of the public never get's to see!

Make sure you go on a clear day...When I went it was overcast really bad and I couldnt see anything. Also try and get tickets early in the day...they do close it down at a certain time and do also sell out in the peak times.

I printed all kinds of info from Geoff Walen's site, and spent a two-and-a-half weeks touring all over Bavaria and Austria chasing down all of his "secret" landmarks. I thought my Wife would kill me for it, but she had such a good time, she's ready to move! The only place that worked us over a little was Ebensee - we had an EXTREMELY creepy experience around the old location of the KZ Lager and the abandoned tunnels . . . But that's a story for another day . . .

hi i have visited the eagles nest various times and will be returning in the end of july. the tour srarts at the tourist info center across from the bahnhoff.the tour is ok but better to explore yourself.dont forget the bunkers under zum turken as they are worth a look.also if you can buy the book,hitlers alpine retreat by james wilson isbn 1 84415 505 6 as it is good for reference when you visit.

When you arrive by bus at the top of the trail, get off as fast as you can and head for the elevator asap. That way, you avoid the inevitably massive queues to go up to the 'nest.' The elevator can only take 8-9 people at a time and on busy days the wait can be long.
