    The light machinegewehr team

    We have a discussion in our reenactment group about the weapon used by the assistant gunner in a two men light mg team.

    Should the assistant gunner (MG 2) be armed with a pistol or a K98 in a recon (aufklärung) group? My opinion is that it seems to have been more common that he carried a rifle instead of a pistol.

    Im I right or wong?

    Early war it was a pistol, but late war it was a K98k.
    I forgot when they changed it... sorry.
    But that was "according to the book", in practice it could have been that he carried a pistol or a machinepistole.

    What unit (and what date) do you guys re-enact?
    And are you a Aufkl. unit or another unit that has been send on Aufkl. patrol/duty?
    I'm collecting anything related to the towns Castricum and Bakkum during WWII.
    Also soldbucher from 116pzdiv. And 1944-1945 eastfront pockets, kampfgruppe and Oder front.

      We portray a unit in A.A. 11 'Nordland' between the end of 1943-1945.
