    Custer's soldier's remains???

    Hi
I have been told that the remains of ones of Custer's soldiers were recently found at Little Big Horn.
    Is that true?

I am not sure of that but within the last few years they were able to do some escavating because a prairie fire had reduced the layers of grass that covered everything so maybe they did then.

      Thanks Denny
The story is that they apparently found the remains of a certain identified sergeant that while hurt managed to run away from the massacre but died nearby and was even found with his belongings.
Is that true or I have been had again?

Crowback, that is quite an interesting site. I had never heard mention that there were actually some survivors of the battle as they described in the piece about the first burial. I have always heard that they died to the very last man.

Wow, great site! I starting looking at it last night and before I knew it about 2 hours had gone by!

I'm not sure if this is maybe the soldier in question, but it looks like a horse and then a soldier's remains were found back in 1995?

Have a look at this page Custer's Last Stand...scroll down a little bit until you get to picture number 6 and 6a at the section called 'Reno Retreats'. It shows where the trooper and his horse were found.

Not sure if that would class as 'recently found' though? Looking at the info on the website it looks like it was only updated last month so unless the soldier was only just found I would of expected to see the details on the website?

Wonder where the pictures are of the horse and soldier remains? Would be very interested in seeing them if there are any.

This starts making sense...I would also like to see pictures.
I am sure that what's not bones must have been showed in a museum or so

I remember an article about the recovered body from a story in National Geographic sometime in the 1990s. It was an indepth article with pictures of the remains and a forensic study to determine his identity. They were unable to do so if I remember correctly. This came about because a fire had cleared the thick brush in a ravine. Try doing a search through National Geographic.

I found a link to the story but could not find pictures. You might have to find a copy of the magazine.

I read about it too but I thought the forensic buildup was published in Smithsonian magazine and a lady produced a photo of her ancester who was a twin brother to the mystery soldier. They were both from Czechoslovakia and one had joined the army never to be seen again. If I remember right the tintype matched the twin's buildup photo in every way. The way I remember it his remains were found inside a tree that had grown up and incorporated his bones -- this happens with objects from time to time. They found it because of the fire in the 1980s that cleared the way for intense study.
