    Building another WW1 bunker

    Kameraden and list members,

As many of you know Germans are "Creatures of Comfort!" last weekend our unit Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 459 started building bunker #2 at Newville, PA. We are building it from fresh cut oak - The foundation, uprights and roof plate are 6 x 6 oak beams and the planking is 2 x 10 oak.

Here are some picts of the construction...

    Our Supervisor "Von Oskar!"

Our new foundation built next to our to our existing bombproof.

    Nailing in the sub-floor!

The first wall is in place as Musketier Kaupmaunn works a lag into place.

Hoisting the roof plate up! Even with modern power-tools good old fashion muscle and ropes work best!

What we accomplished in one weekend. It will be great when finished!

Great photos but this looks too easy. You don't have shells landing near you or machines guns laying down fire! I do like that the one worker was wearing the period style field cap.

Peter your right nothing being shot or shelled but damn those 6" x 6" oak beams can get heavy after the day goes by. At night we were being shelled by empty bottles of Dopplebock bier!

I was wearing my hat as well but it's my digital camera!

Maybe, but imagine what a 6X6 12' long could do to Oskar had it slipped.
