These guys are the only ones I know who've managed to get fully auto replicas passed by the BATF and it took a long, long time.

Don't say that, Ben. I have my hopes up of getting one of these for my collection.

That is not true... There is a full auto blank firing uzi type weapon that shoots 9mm PAK blanks and is currently forsale in the USA.

I know this is probably a dumb question but why is it that I see tons of semi-auto AK-47s that are made all over the world for sale in gun ads here in the U.S. but a semi-auto version of the MP-44 cannot be imported.

But, as said on the advert.

So, I guess it all depends on which State you live in....

They need to be classified as sporting rifles. There are 3 things that make it a non sporting rifle and you can only have 1. They would be the ability to accept a large capacity mag, bullet size is not a sporting round(there is a defintion but I am not sure), and the pistol grip and stock combo is the third I think. The MP44 has all three and that is why it needs to modified into a sporting firearm to be imported. The hold up on the guns from Germany is the stock. They can open the blocked mag well here. You cant easily change the caliber so that is your 1 no-no. Then you have the MP44 stock, which need to be made in the USA. Then you can have the semi auto MP44 made from new parts. The AK that are imported go through a similar process to be imported.

I was considering getting their airsoft gas blowback version of the MP44 since I'm into WWII airsoft guns and wanted a gun with the Escort blowback system, but it would probably just rattle around with no "recoil" anyway, which in the end doesn't seem very appealing to me. I had Shoei's GBB MG42 but sold it a while back without ever firing it.

Yeah, I like the looks of the MKb42(H). I think that's just a dummy display model.
I just saw the link added to the first post I responded to. The Shoei MP44 used in the clip is heavily modified by a UK reenactor to use 9mm blanks. Since the Shoei is made of pot-metal (unsure of the exact alloy) the receiver and chamber were steel reinforced, a new hammer assy, bolt and spring was added by a gun-smith. Sterling 9mm magazines were inserted and permanently seated into the MP44 mags. As far as I remember it functioned well in semi but less so in auto. This is off the top of my head, I have the full info from the UK owner somewhere but I can't find it right now.

The Shoei MKb42H is indeed a display model only.

Thanks for the info. That makes sense then since that MP44 sounds like a real gun and also looks to have a fair amount of recoil. I don't think the recoil on the cap firing Shoei would be very much, if any, since it's just the cap and no powder in the casing like a true blank round.

That's funny you mentioned the Shoei is pot metal. I was just about to buy the gas blowback version but asked around and found out the same info- pot metal crap. For me, $1550 is too much to pay for a pot metal POS.

Looked really good too. It is too bad that we cannot get them in the USA.

a couple of questions: is it illegal to own a Shoei MP44 replica here in Chicago? eventually do we have a importer/seller here in the US or we have to deal directly with Shoei in Japan?
                          thanks
