what ever gets you through the nite

hello..alcohol and drugs??...during the war??...surely never!?....alcohol is a given...theres whisky on omaha..vodka on the volga.. snapps on the steppes...rum rations!!
id like to find out a bit more about drug use in all services, in all theaters, in all armies..
is there any more evidence of drug use then the very few mentions that it gets in books..
the veitnam war for example has a massive drug buzz ....the main reason being they were all illegal at the time in the US.....every movie shows the heads smoking dope..
in iraq there is a fantastic cocaine biz ...generously provided
    drunk russians
    caffein frenzied englishmen
    sake induced japanese
    pleae dont take this seriously...
anyone any gossip on someone who used drugs during the second world war?...
    i promise i wont tell....
equally....it would make for a nice conversation

Was funny reading the Luftwaffe pilot, Johannes Steinhof's account in one of his books about getting stuck into the Pervitin stimulent pills on a flight around Sicily, I think he munched 3 of them and was a little "wound up" after that, hehe

Don't forget the German paratroopers at Cassino. They loaded up on Snapps during some of the most brutal battles there. Also, the Japanese liquored themselves up on saki during the Attu and Saipan banzai's.

Well, i have HEARD German troops using some sort of methanphetaimen buring the blitz to keep them on the move. Never thought to look more into that though, and who could forget Sven Hassel's opium cigs that they were apperantly "issued" But, i dont know anything of that sort for sure. Dont quote me, maybe someone else can shed light?

Ah yeah, i had seen that one on the history channel once. How Hitler had his own little "medicine man" doping him up. Pretty interesting. But i guess after learning my 6th army was smashed, and the Russians are coming full blast towards the Reich, the allies invaded France, i might need a hit to!

But dont you mean that the LSD use was for testing? You really cant expect troops to fight while they are on a trip.... I think that was used as a test, to see if it can be used against the enemy to make them unable to fight. Therefore an easy US victory..

Geez, and I thought "go pills" were a relatively modern invention.

anyone know about the 'airsickness' pills given to the paratroopers?
goring was a mad morphine addict..started taking it after he was shot....and was eventually but in an asylum because of his addiction

They would have been Pervitan pills I'd say
