Regarding North Africa, I just found this today. Take a look at the link below to the documentary about the so called "Rommel Treasure". At 41:05 is a cut of a German film from 1963 showing a lot of tanks, Italian and German, left in the desert. Quite impressive. I wonder where they are now?

Long gone I am affraid.
All the German tanks from the El Alamein museum also ended up disapearing over the years.
