English Civil War pics from Detling 2003.

Hi Guys, something a little different. I promised Rick L that I would take some pics from this event a few weeks ago. The group shown is called "The Sealed Knot". These guys can amass a big turnout that can put WW2 re-enacting to shame. This was, for them, a small event.
    Cheers, Ade.

i was there and watched one of the demonstations with my wife and daughter, we enjoyed it imensley, and found it pretty informative, although my 8 yr old daughter maintains she didnt learn anything you just dont apreciate how big those pikes are till you see them irl. have a look at the photos on thier website and you can see some of the bigger events that they have done. a massive collection of people. all in all a fantastic day cant wait till next year although the sealed knot demo ranked pretty high in the day my fav was the spitfire doing flyby's over the sbg's battle re-enactment.

Hi Stuart, those pikes are pretty heavy awkward things too. I once had a go at pike drill . I will stick to WW2. I never got to see the Civil War battle, Lez my wife, took the pics as I was busy with my Soviet group.
The Spitfire fly past was something else!
Next year the show is going to take place over the August Bank holiday weekend so the event will be 3 days long.
                Cheers, Ade.

I once got to fire a Matchlock at another show in return for a go on a Sten.

Thanks Adrian and thank your wife too! The shade of my 9x great grandpa, Roundhead Captain Thomas Trowbridge, Sr, saluteth thee!

One would wonder how all those Hobbit-attired folk transport their pikes--

hard to imagine strapped to the roof of a Morris Mini Minor, or held out the window of a bus...
