5. Photos of insignia, including sweetheart badge of prisoner, Belgian flags added after liberation. The prisoner number of the trousers was resewn 'upside down', also added a Belgian flag, and likely a new red triangle obtained, I presume after liberation, along with a new number for his trousers. The Prisoner triangle on his tunic is very faded, may have been his original, with some of it's colouring has run into the tunic underneath from laundering.Last edited by robs; 05-23-2013, 04:54 PM.

"If anyone can assist with how to research such a prisoner "47338" please let me know."
Do you have any idea what camp he was in? In my case I knew he had been at Dachau, so contacted the museum there, that was very helpful, and confirmed everything I had been told about the owner.
You could try Dachau, and in any case perhaps thet have a database that will enable identification of your man, knowing he was Belgian.

Dachau can be excluded for the uniform above; top folks at Dachau Memorial Site Library staff as they always replied to my research inquiries. Here's what they said;
"...checked the prisoner number in our database. This prisoner number 47338 belonged to a person from France. So I don’t think, that this uniform belonged to prisoner of the concentration camp Dachau.
The uniform looks like a typical prisoner uniform. The number on the white piece of material and the red triangle are typical".

Hi Michael, I'm not sure. This set was taken shortly after liberation, as a replacement set, which many surviving sets are, thus the good condition. The insignia may have been quickly reapplied but I can only guess.
Continuing research on 47338. This is Auschwitz records but unlikely as not of Belgian origin. But research is fun and any further info is appreciated.

Hello All,
This Christmas brought me an unexpected and unusual present.
It's a prison uniform of my great-grandfather, who managed to escape KL Stutthof and survive. It was found once again.
The jacket is in a surprisingly good condition and is a (although sad and horrible in its history) a real family treasure for me.
I decided to show it here - Just this small contribution to this thread. If you're interested in some non-emotional, technical aspects of this item, let me know. I'm sorry for the poor quality of this pic.
Best regards and Merry Christmas,
Pawel

Due to the need for money for a major buy, I was recently able to aquire from a local collector this fantastic grouping having originaly belonged to Frenchman René Gaffuri, who was a prisonner in Ravensbrück.
Here is his box of souvenirs, including his miniature medals, and some post war badges to be worn at commemorations. He was taken to Germany on a convoy in late August 1944, and was in Neuengamme and then Ravensbrück.Last edited by Jean-Loup; 01-31-2015, 05:01 PM.
