A fascinating story, I hope that when this is investigated the findings will be revealed.

Come on guys, you must also believe in bigfoot. This is a hoax. As an expert in forensic analysis, I can tell you that a dead body would disintegrate within weeks, if not days, in such a climate (not to mention months). I wasn't even going to answer this rediculous post but can't help myself with some of these incredible comments.

I'm certainly looking forward to the investigating team revealing what this actually is.

Maybe, maybe not
Eric,
I agree that under normal circumstances in a jungle climate the body should have decomposed rapidly. But if one considers flight gear then the situation would be a body with gloves, boots and a one piece flight suit trussed up in a parachute harness. For all intents and purposes this is a body bag. So it may just be a bag of bones hanging there at this point but there could be indentifiable information present if it is a body. The weakness in the arguement are the feet. I would think heavy boots would have fallen off long ago but I will also say that in some very old remains the by products of decomposition that saturate material and dry can be just like a glue and stick it together. Then one could argue that with 60 plus years of winds and rains something should have been knocked loose. If nothing else it will be interesting to see what it is.

It's kind of cute how everyone just seems to assume New Guinea is just one large coastal swamp

If it is human remains, who knows, it could even be much more recent than from WWII.....aircraft have gone missing throughout New Guinea for the last 70+ years.
Just a thought.

Hmmm this area of the track was very tropical, seeing the damage to to aircraft and other items in the area i seriously doubt anything organic would last in the canopy for more than a few months. Also in the short time i was in the area there was some pretty wild and id have thought it would have been dislodged rather quickly. Does anyone know what the shroud lines would have been made out of?
Either way id be interested to see what this is, i suppose weirder things have happened.
