The Atlantic Wall montage
Jan,
Nicely done...I'll probably never be able to personally visit the implacements so it was nice of you to share the pictures with all of us. The exhibits appear to be well maintained. Do you have any idea as to the visitation numbers?

Hi Jan,
Nice thread. My parents live in Middelkerke and when I was in highshool I took my friends playing in what was than still the Royal Domain of Prince Karel. The Prince lived in a little house in the middle of this huge terrain only protected by some barbe wire. Since it was quit easy to get under the wire we spend many days playing in the trenches and bunckers.
After the prince died I know they turned the whole area in to an open air museum but untill now I never found the time to visit it.
I remember that once I drove buy in my Beetle with an elder German guy sitting next to me, I will never forget how exited and proud he got and how he yelled " Shau mahl an Philippe dass hat der Hitler hier noch alles gebaut"
I agree with you that this is probably one of, if not the best, preserved part of the original Atlantic Wall and I always felt dissapointed after visiting Normandy because I couldn't find any remains that came close to it.
Next time I visit my parent I'll sure make time for a visit of the domain.

Thanks Greg and Philippe for the kind replies...
I'm sorry Greg, but I have no idea about the visitation number...although in september and therefor the end of the 'tourist-period', there were still many visitors from all over Europe.
Very nice to hear that you parents live in Middelkerke.I was there because I was working in my parents small appartement in ' De Panne'. I only managed to paint one wall of the living-room...the rest of the day, well, as you can see...
Cheers

Hi Rich
You really have to come over, but I would suggest that you try to combinate it. The Nord of France and West-Flanders have both numerous WW1 and 2 related musea/monuments to visit.
Concerning ' Raversheide', there are MUCH more displays and bunkers to see and visit, but I ran out of pictures on my digital camera
Cheers

Hello Jan, I was just at this part of the wall on Aug.30 a week ago my trip of Europe and travelled from Utah beach to Northern Holland and saw many german bunkers, great photos. It was a most interesting all the guns and camo netting on some bunkers gave you a feel what it was like then by far the best part of the Wall. Great site to visit.
