The fall of Constantinople 1453 - amazing!!

Hi guys, I hope this is the correct place for this thread. If not - please move.

The thread is about a new site of interest, built in the Turkish capital - a panorama view "The fall of Constantinople 1453". Simply amazing!!! Some real stuff in the closer distance, with monumental highly detailed pictures in the backgroung. Amazing work!!! Even on pictures looks great, for sure this is another place on my "Must Visit!" list

Excellent panorama! The above picture depicts the "storm" that both the Byzantines and Turks understood as a bad omen.

If you have not, read "The Fall of Constantinople" by Runciman and more recently "1453" by Roger Crowley.

Imo, the fall of Constantinople was one of the singularly greatest disasters to the Balkans and the Eastern Meditteranean. As a "what if", for all his faults had Constantine been able to marshall greater support maybe the siege would have turned out differently.

On the other hand Constantinople was exceptionally corrupt and stagnant in terms of development and had been for going on 100 years. The simple fact is if Constantine had a clue he would not have needed any help. Look what Justinian was able to accomplish, of course he had two of the greatest military minds of the era in Belisarius and Narses, but the fact remains. The Empire was wasting away, Mehmed just put it out of its misery.
