Remote German Weather Stations

I read that the Germans had several secret weather stations in various remote parts of the world (the last such outpost surrendered in September 1945 to Norweigen troops!)

What type of units would man these outposts? Heer? KM? Luftwaffe?

If anybody has any photos of such installations, please share them!

Not many weeks ago came document in TV about Weather station located in Bear Island located in Barents Sea.It was manned with about 10men and only their leader was soldier/officer,rest of the crew were scientists.They had full army gear with them,rifles and uniforms.But document told that they did not use those army clothes at all.I believe it was BBC made documentary.

in the 80's the found a german weahter station on canadian sole
south of off cape chidley, on the coast off martin's bay in labrador
set up on 22/23.oktober 1943 by dr.sommermeyer and his crew
dropt of by U 537 (kptlt.peter schrewe)
