Le Luc - France (Operation Dragoon)

    Hi All,

I needed information on the city of Le Luc (Provence) after the Allies landing in the South France (1944).

In this area were supported by French commando groups landing on both flanks, and by Rugby Force, a parachute assault in the LeMuy - Le Luc area by the 1st Airborne Task Force: British 2nd Independent Parachute Brigade, the U.S. 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team, and a composite U.S. parachute/glider regimental combat team formed from the 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion, the glider-deployed 550th Airborne Infantry Battalion, and the 1st Battalion, 551st Parachute Infantry Regiment (Operation Dove).

    Please, somebody could help me?

    Operation Draggon Landings:

    Thank you!!

    Best regards,

    Ricardo.

The 551st was only a "regiment" on paper. In reality until its decemation in 1945 there was only one battalion, they never got up to full regiment strength. So technically it was the entire Regiment that jumped during Dragoon. There is a great book about them called "Messenger of the Lost Battalion"
