Yes, more than 60 years are enough to catch someone.... except if he is out of reach or hiding Obviously he spent the Cold war in a place, where was impossible to be caught. And the 1990's were years of not cold, but real war in the region, so he was again out of reach. And when things changed and his seat started to heat - moved to a place where got nice legal protection /old, ill, etc./. Clever moves! Age is a good excuse. At 95 it is easy to pretend having dementia. And in the same time, at this age a person could be still active, working and sharp-minded. Even at 100! Things change, life expands, if 60 was OLD some time ago, today it is not so. Ex pilot and current lawyer Hajo Hermann worked till very recently /or maybe still works?/ and his current age is 95! Or the founder of the LCD drugs, at over 100 this guy looks like 65 or 70
In other words, this has to be proven, but at 95 one can be quite healthy and with clear mind - so capable of receiving punishment for the horrible deeds.

I believe everyone is innocent UNTILL proven GUILTY in a court of law. If found guilty by a jury of ones peers then they deserve what ever sentence is handed down to them by a court of law reguardless of age. An old saying is if you do the crime then you do the time. There is no statue of limitations when it comes to murder

Yet more hypocrisy. Let's get a definition of "war criminal" first. Then let's start pursuing some of the current crop of these people, starting with George W. Bush and Tony Blair.

I find the Nazi hunter obsession interesting. No effort being extended to hunt anyone else, such as Stalin era Russian criminals, Korean War criminals, Vietnamese War criminals, Bosnian war criminals etc., etc.. No sympathy for Nazis, but it must be like shooting fish in a barrel - only a handfull of Nazi war criminals available & all in ther 90s. I have Polish relatives who told me what the times were like. Hanging & shooting innocent civilians. Repugnant to any man. But the consensus of opinion I get from them is that the Russians were worse - more brutal & bloodthirsty. I would have more respect for current Nazi hunters if they would mount a similar search for Russian war criminals. Ooops - too late -they are almost all dead too.

It might be a tough case to prosecute, not many if any living witnesses, unless some good paperwork was left unburned it might be difficult to obtain a conviction, especially if he has some good lawyers.
I am wondering about his mental state, he may have convinced himself over the years that he really didn't have anything to do with any atrocities if he has anything remotely resembling a conscience. Seems that would be hard to live with but I didn't live in those times.

                Let's get'em NOW

We have to go after these War Criminals now. Justice must be served no matter how difficult the process or expensive. There are actually Men walking around free right now that knowingly dropped incendiary bombs on Women and Children and we must Act NOW! A lot of these Men were Officers so the whole following orders CRAPOLA is out the window.

BrianK, you have hit the nail on the head with your statements !! It's funny how people selectively pursue only certain "EVILS" in this world. It's time these individuals get off thier conceited high horses and address issues of current matters. I'm sure that most of the men that served during WW2 in these positions have suffered greatly over the past 60 + years emotionally as well as physically. It was a terrible war during a terrible time, but life moves on.

                  Regards,
                  Brien

                    Yes you are absolutely right.

Lets start with the people who participated in and organized this raid: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombing...n_World_War_II

Then we will start prosecuting veterans of the firebombing of Japan. Then Artillery men who had rounds fall on targets other than Germans.

War is a dirty and nasty business, but distinctions need to be drawn between an act of war and an act of murder.

I think before anyone makes any more statements about age, guilt or innocence, let me ask everyone to ask themselves ONE question.
IF someone had a hand in murdering YOUR child today, would you wish the killer to feel safe from prosecution at all due to his/her age?
                        With Respect,
                        Mark.

What about all the allied veterans who commited warcrimes or were responsible for them? as long as they dont get a trial i dont see reasons why old german veterans who might have been involved in one, which is not even sure in this case, should get a trial. friends and relatives of my family have been raped and murdered by soviets and murdered by americans and im sure they havnt been punished yet.

war is horrific, please dont look at it just from one side. theres too much bias.
