    Just curious were there any Gebirgsjager units in North Afrika?

    Yes there were, they fought in most all theaters.

      two units.

      - Gebirgsjager regiment 756 which only operated in Tunisia.

      - Sonderverband 288 had a company of gebirgsjager which operated in Libya, Egypt and Tunisia.

        Always thought it was the 2nd or 3th company of Sonderverband 288 that operated there

        GJR 756 arrived in Tunisia in January 1943

          GJR 756 was totally decimated by the British in Tunisia by the end of April 43' . It has been said that this was the fiercest battle fought during this campaign.

          I have a really nice example of a DAK overseas cap with soutache for gebirgsjaeger, I'll have to post some pictures sometime.
