Some Neat Relics Found Near Schweinfurt

Here are a couple relics I found on Saturday in a wooded area north of Schweinfurt. There were a lot of cartridge casings which all appear to be blanks, a steel Luftwaffe buckle with the rest of the belt and a 1938 dated aluminum catch. Also a 1942 dated box for the decon stuff and two dog tags with Fl. H. Kdtr. Schweinfurt on them. (Fliegerhorst Komandantuer Schweinfurt). One has 768 and the other 769 on it. Also nearby was an aluminum disk with eagle and number 4. Anyone have any ideas what the aluminum disk is?

Normally all you find around Schweinfurt from WW II is lots of bomb and FLAK fragments along with .50 cal. bullets and cartridge casings. It was nice to find something else especially when marked with Schweinfurt. The Fliegerhorst is now the site of US Army Conn Barracks.

    Thanks for looking.

    Brad

          Thanks for sharing
You should contact the Volksbund regarding those two dog tags as they are complete and maybe the first owner is still around, if you what I mean

These are definitely not related to a burial or anything like that. Everything was just under the leaves scattered over a large area. In the years past I have found many little groups of stuff like this including buttons, maybe a buckle, badge, equipment and sometimes a rifle etc. In a couple places I found groups of things together. I think all of this is either from single soldiers or groups of soldiers throwing things away at the end of the war or shortly after.

                Brad,

Can I ask where exactly you found this stuff? I currently work on Conn Barracks and intend to do some hunting around here before we shut it down later this year. Or any other places you know that would be of interest? Excellent finds!

                  Hi

There are many things which normal historical books don't show. It can only be found by detail study.

                    Hi Brad,

I believe the small aluminium disks could well be fobs for locker keys, hence the numbers on them.
                    Nice finds!

                    best wishes,

                    John.

I have found many things around Schweinfurt - I am digging nearly one year, i have found two helmets and a many small things.

I would like to meet up with fellow diggers and search - it would be much more fun!

I would like to know if the Tags are for sale or trade? They would look great in my cabnet with everything i found from schweinfurt!

                        Regards
