Metal detecting in Normandy

Hello,
In september im going back to normandy and i was thinking to get a metal detector to see if i could find anything there.
I heard the French laws are strict like the italian ones about metal detecting.Does anyone have any tips/experience about how to metal detecting without risking to go to jail?

Jean-Loups got some good experience in France. Firstmost getting in trouble is your second worry, getting blown up from discarded ammunition or uxo is the first consideration.

I went to Normandy not so long ago.
Found some very cool things.

Didn't saw any police though.
But always be carefull, don't openly walk in your work-cloths with your spade and metaldetector in your hands

Do good research, don't just go to the big battles, everyone does that.
I always pick the smaller battle places.

and take a big wedge of euro's the farmers out there will let you detect thier land for euro's.as they say money talks.don't go anywhere near memorials or cemetary's,stay away from tourist areas and don't go to the obvious places all you will find is small holes everywhere which brings me to my final tip.ALWAYS FILL IN YOUR HOLES AFTER DIGGING
