Wanted: Maps of German defensive positions in Italy.

I'm after any detailed maps, be they Allied or Axis, of German defensive positions in Italy in WW2.
I am particularly interested in the Pesaro/Rimini region i.e. Battle of Montecchio/Gemmano/Coriano etc and, of course, the Battle of Monte Cassino.
If you have any other intelligence maps of other areas, Futa Pass etc, then they too would be greatly appreciated.

Below is a sample section of the sort of maps I am after(Cassino, May '44) in which it shows weapon positions, encampments, fortified areas etc.

Anything of this description would be most useful.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
take a look at this wonderful site on the Gothic line:
    http://spazioinwind.libero.it/gothic.../offensiva.htm
You'll find every map you're looking for.
    Regards,

      Thanks, I appreciate the help.
However, the maps are no where near the detail I am after. I'm looking more for 1:50,000 or 1:25,000 that actually show individual positions i.e. MG, Mortar, camps, fuel dumps etc.

NARA (archives in College Park, MD) has all that and more. Some official target maps issued to company commanders are 1:10,000. Have captured German maps and unit maps of Cassino. Have you been there?

Thanks, I will check them out.

Yes, I have been to Cassino several times and I'm looking to go again in the near future.
The area is fascinating, covered with shell/mortar fragments and, in the caves on Cavendish Road, full of rusty British mortar fins.

It's all just lying there if you have a rummage.

            Tommygun,

I meant if you have been to the archives but wouldn't mind hearing more about your Cassino trip. I was there a few years back. Did you see the destroyed Sherman tank with blown off turret near Hill 500 that is now a memorial or the bombed-out farm used by the Germans? Are you a researcher thinking about a book? I collect Cassino books and have some rare ones.

Thanks for your post, wish I could be of more help. Will keep you posted if I hear of anything. Eric

Oh, I see. No, I'm actually a Brit now living in Italy and I havn't been to the US in quite a few years.
Indeed I have been to all the places you mentioned. I have walked up from the abbey, up Cavendish Road past Pt 593(Snakeshead Ridge) and onto Albaneta Farm and the tank.

Found lots of goodies on the slopes of 593, mostly all American: 30.06 in Garand clip(with steel bullets all corroded and bloated), stash of 45cal(steel bullets), Pineapple grenade etc and the head of a German stick grenade.
On Castle Hill I found an MP40 magazine just lying on the ground outside the wall. Inside there were numerous Enfield clips lying about and in the bushes lots of British Army mess tins, batteries and other detritus.

One side effect of being engrossed in this sort of thing is that causes you to forget all your worries. For example the first time I went I left the girlfriend in the car park while I wondered off for five hours.
              She wasn't happy.
