The WWII Great Escape - Tunnel Harry

I thought this was a neat piece of history and very well presented intersting web-site and thought I would share it with you.

I'm assuming everyone has seen the movie "The Great Escape". This web-site is about the tunnel. The interactive map is also creative, but not nearly as much as the fortitude it took to engineer the escape itself. The animation alone is worth looking at, but the story of the tunnel is amazing.

This was the inspiration for the Steve McQueen movie in the 60's. It is a fascinating look at a tunnel that was built in a German POW camp. The tunnel allowed 76 Allied POWs to escape. Check it out. Run your cursor over each number and it will tell you about it.

About a dozen major characters, fully explored, great cinematography, lighting, a memorable theme song, a compelling story with great acting, even down to the bit parts, made this my favorite film of all time.....
You couldn't make a film with a cast and running time like this, today.....It would cost about 800 million dollars, and today's movie-going public would find it too long and boring....It's sad.....
Thanks for posting the link to this map!

    Cheers,
    Bob.

Have you seen The Great Escape 2 The Untold Story? It is basically the same movie but takes place just before the escape and what happens after the escape and the tracking down of the men involved with the murders of the 50 escapees. A little cheaply made, a ment for TV movie but it does use the real names of the men.

love the film but think it's a shame Hollywood decided fabricate various elements of a perfectly good true story.
Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.
