This past weekend I was at the Ciney show and we spent the night in Bastogne. On Sat. I went to visit the woods above Foy and found a new monument for E Co. 506th PIR that was put in since my trip there last year. the monument is on the Bastogne side of the hill as you drive from the big memorial and museum.
Afterwards we detected in the woods, but it has been hit hard so very few non-ferrous signals thus very few cartridges etc. There are still a lot of artillery fragments to find, I guess I could have dug 1000 if I wanted to. It looks like people have dug all of the fox holes out to below 1944/45 depth and probably dug big holes where there never were fox holes. Next time I think I will try a little farther away from this "famous" set of woods.
