    The telegraph writes that the red armys raping was on a much higher scale then earlyer believed.

    "Beevor, the author of the best-selling Stalingrad, says advancing Soviet troops raped large numbers of Russian and Polish women held in concentration camps, as well as millions of Germans."

    "Against this horrific background, Stalin and his commanders condoned or even justified rape, not only against Germans but also their allies in Hungary, Romania and Croatia."

    "In many towns and villages every female, aged from 10 to 80, was raped."

    The russian troops raped KZ PRISONERS, POLES, GERMANS AND RUSSIAN WIMEN AND CHILDREN.

    "How many German women were raped? One can only guess, but a high proportion of at least 15 million women who either lived in the Soviet Union zone or were expelled from the eastern provinces. The scale of rape is suggested by the fact that about two million women had illegal abortions every year between 1945 and 1948."

      To anyone who has studied WW2 in depth, all of this is not "news".

      Sadly, all of this when on in all Armies in WW2.

      This is, of course, good publicity for a new book.

      This subject has been discussed before in the forum and has rightly been an emotive subject.

            Did the germans use rape as a tool of weapon and lust?

            I know that they where severe punished if caught doing such a crime in Scandinavia.
            All old people I have talked with in Norway describes the german soldier as a very diciplined.
            They where polite, giving children candy and where more and more tired of the war and wanted to go home to their family if they was not whiped out by allied terror bombing.
            They all feared and hated the gestapo.

              The German soldiers werent so cute n cuddly in Russia and Poland. they treated the civilians,and the women like meat:

              Mass rapes

              Rapes were comitted by Wehrmacht[2] forces on Jewish women and girls by German soldiers during Invasion of Poland[2]. Rapes were also committed against Polish women and girls during mass executions made primarily by Selbstschutz, which were accompanied by Wehrmacht soldiers and on territory under administration of German military, the rapes were made before shooting female captives[1]. Thousands of Soviet female nurses, doctors and field medicians fell victim to rape when captured during the war, and often they were murdered afterwards[3]. Wehrmacht also ran brothels where women were forced to work[2]. Ruth Seifert in War and Rape. Analytical Approaches writes In the Eastern territories the Wehrmacht used to brand the bodies of captured partisan women - and other women as well - with the words "Whore for Hitler's troops" and to use them accordingly.


              Destruction of Warsaw
              Further information: Battle of Warsaw (1939) and Warsaw Uprising

              Up to 13,000 soldiers and 250,000 civilians were killed by German-led forces during the Warsaw Uprising. Human shields were used by German forces during the fighting and during the Wola massacre August 5-August 8, 1944 50,000 civilians were executed to intimidate the Poles into surrender.

                I have read that more French women where raped by the Americans during the liberation then by Germans during their occupation. It could be in one of Antony Beavers books but Im not sure.

                Im not saying that the Germans threated Russian or Polish women well but I have never read anything about massrapes comitted by the Germans.

                  I have heard storys of raping in east territorys but never any documentation.
                  The veterans I have spoken with helped the population where they could.
                  Rapes was never something they thought of as they considered themself as men of honour.

                  Maybee it comes down to Dirlewanger-Kaminski brigades of crimminals who fought against partizans? They where warcrimminals but they did never represent the WH or SS. In fact other german units complained to highcommand against their actions.

                  Partizans do not stand under the geneva convention as they do not follow the rules of engagement.
                  Norwegian resistance people was executed as partizans and the germans shooting them did not get punished after 45 since they where intitled to do so.
                  I thought that german soldiers was not allowed to sleep with jews.

                  Scandinavia was treatened better then other countrys like France and Croatia cause of the hochgermanic status and the low partizan action.

                    During my interviews with french civilians, the only rape that was reported to me, was done by a US soldier. (black truck drivers according to witness)
                    There was also a story of US troops using bicycle pumps to "inflate" certain parts of some prostitutes, causing those parts to "burst"; but I have no idea how true that is.

                      In one of the "THEN AND NOW" magazines they had a spread about U.S. military prisons in the UK, and the GIs that were court-marshalled and hung for crimes committed against UK civilians. I don't know if the US Army maintained "justice" after D-Day, or in any other theater.

                      As for the Germans mass raping Jews, I would have thought that was a big No-No based on racial laws, etc.

                        Sounds like Bull-s*it to me , someone is writing a book , and like by magic , these stories appears ?!!! .
                        Honestly , since we are all collecting militaria , what do we expect ? this is war for you , people die , on all side and civilain casualty were extremely hight during WW2 . This is war .
                        War have never been clean , and rape is unfortunately NOT NEW !!! what do you think wiking , barbarian , roman etc.. did in conquered countries ? .
                        German with Jewish women was completely Verboten , any soldier caugh ,would have been severely punished . But the camp guards did have Brothel ! .

                            Did you really expect them to sit down with you and have a nice chat about all the women they raped, men they murdered and homes they looted?

                            Of course not all German soldiers committed these crimes, and i'm not saying the veterans you talked to did, but open your eyes. If they did do any of those things, do you really think they would have told you about it?

                              You know, whenever someone blankets the German soldier as a "Nazi" people go ape and a large discussion ensues where people scream that "they wern't all Nazi's." Which I agree with.

                              But when the Russian soldier is blanketed as "communist" or a "bolshevik" no one cares or says a thing. May I introduce the idea that maybe not all Russians were communists?

                              My country is a Constitutional Monarchy, and yet I loath the idea of the British Queen being our Head of State. Your complaining that the Germans get a rough treatment. Sometimes in these threads I see the opposite.
