An hour with a Freikorps Danmark Veteran

    Hi all.

Yesterday I had the honor and the pleasure of having a nice long talk with a Freikorps Danmark vet. He was lucky to survive, when the rest of his group was desimated on the eastern front.

He talked for an hour about the eastern front, and all I can say is...............HOLY S... !

He lives in the same town I live in and he has invited me back next week. One thing is to read about stuff like this and se it on film, but hearing about it from the mouth of someone who lived through it, is a whole other ball game.

Just wanted to share it with you all :-)

I think that it is a long and scary storie, and i am very bad at spelling English.

He told me about one time when they had to fall back, and their MG gunner got cut of from the rest and had to stay behind in his foxhole. When they finaly got back to him, he was alive and there were 73 dead russians infront of his MG.

When one then thinks about the fact that the gunner had to load his own gun and change the pipe on the MG.......well, that makes you think !

Du er meget, meget heldig. Jeg er dybt misundelig.
Dette er noget du vil huske resten af dit liv!

Jeg har altid haft lyst til at snakke med en veteran fra korpset, men muligheden har aldrig været der. Desværre.

Your english is fine, don't worry about your grammar

You should bring a tape recorder with you next time. It is your duty!

do you have any pictures of him as he is today? It would be nice to put a face to the stories

                          Hi :-)

It went realy well. He is a very nice mand, and very youthfull.

One would not belive that he is 88 years old.

We had a good time and i made sure that he had lots of cookies, coffie and cognac ;-)

I did not tape him or take pics, as i dont want to "spook" him, before he gets to know me, all so out of respect, as i dont want him to feel like he is a "chimp in a zoo".

This will not be the last time we meet.

                          Regards, peter

I am sure there are many here who would love to hear about this mans life.

                            cheers
