Sad news that former Oberleutnant and Staffelkapitaen of 12. JG 27, Franz Stigler, passed away on March 22, 2008. Franz had 28 victories against western allies, and was decorated with the DKiG. He had been a family friend since 1942, when he flew with my uncle in North Africa. Franz was shot down 17 times himself, and had a depression in his forehead courtesy of a .50 slug which hit him during a daylight head-on attack on a B-17. During the 1970's Franz flew a Messerschmitt 108 locally which was painted in Luftwaffe colours, including his "scoreboard". He is survived by his wife, Hija, and a daughter.

Sorry to hear of his passing, another vetern gone to join his comrades. They are getting fewer and fewer every day. My u-boot vetern friend Edgar was here today for a vist and he turned 85 this past March. Love listening to his stories. Edgar's passed away awhile ago she was a year older than Ed -
