On line petition which might be of interest to Uk collectors of deacts. and to re enactors.
Our friends at NUMBER 10 intend to ban all Pre-1995 deacts. - perhaps they might comnsider doing something about illegal guns - there would seem to be an easy to access supply of them to the criminal fraternity , without them having to either buy or steal deactivated guns.
Its is not like there is a shortage of illegal guns - why the hell do the goverment always take the soft option when it comes to being "Tough on Crime" ?
How many crimes are committed with deactivated guns which have been re activated ?
Can they show us the evidence ?
Could this be the end of our hobby?
Jan 10 and the Government delivers a new body blow to the future of
Britsh re-enactment as we know it. In a statement that was of no
suprise to some fo us , Home Secretary Jaqui Smith announced plans to
"ban" all pre 1995 deactivated weapons under the transparent excuse of
"reactivation to commit crime" Whilst it is accepted that some weapons
can be reactivated they often present more of a danger to the user than
the intended victim.
What really lies behind this is a cynical manipulation to assuage the
general public. A hardened critic could suggest vote winning tactics..
The truth of this matter is, the problem does not lie with deactivated
weapons, many of which are unsuitble or unfashionable to use for
criminal purposes.
The real danger lies with illegal importation of genuine, live firearms
from Eastern Bloc Countries and other sources. These should be
targetted and halted, re-enactors are reasonable law abiding citizens.
The demographic that in the UK seems to be targeted for an affected by
most legislation these days.
There are figures to confirm the use of reactivated weapons in crime,
less then 1% of all gun crime in 2006/07.
There has been no evidence presented to support the statements of
reactivated weapons being converted and used in murders. We simply have
the Government's word for it.
And if you feel as strongly as we do then write a letter to your MP and
local councillors telling them how you feel and asking that they
reconsider the ill conceived proposal. Resources could be better
directed towards the Police actually tackling real gun crime as opposed
to criminalising decent citizens due to the actions of a tiny minority.
Support us - WRITE TO YOUR MP AND MAKE PLAIN YOU DO NOT WANT THIS
PROPOSAL MAKING LAW.
DONT LET THIS GOVERMENT KILL OFF ANOTHER BRITISH PAST TIME

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to protect the rights of
responsible re-enactors and collectors of deactivated firearms. As
reenactors and collectors we find that our rights as responsible
collectors of deactivated firearms is again being eroded. Re-enactors
raise many thousands of pounds for veterans charities, and other good
causes every year. We make sure our events are safe and comply with all
Health and safety regulations. We are insured and members of organised
groups and clubs. If re-enactors are banned from having deactivated
firearms, a whole hobby will be wiped out, many hundred*s of businesses
that supply uniform, kit, vehicles will close down, Thousands of
hobbyists, model makers and visitors will no longer have the chance to
see re-enactments in the open air. This proposed crime bill will
effectively make criminals out of hundreds of thousands of law abiding
people in the UK without a thought for their rights, just because of a
few uneducated individuals wave imitation firearms in the streets.
