My first trip to Brittany, where to go?

    Hi all,

This weekend I am going to Brittany for the first time, I now live in Normandie full time so it's not too far for me, I'm going to Huelgoat and Brest.

Does anyone know of any Militaria Vendors in Brittany near Brest, are there any members on here who live near by, I would be interested to meet up. My big passion is for Relics, I am a digger here in Normandie (Manche) but have never detected in Brittany, does anyone know somewhere worth trying?

    Any help greatly appreciated

    Steve

    Hello,
if you are going to Huelgoat try to detect in the forest around Huelgoat (it was HQ for Third FJD) i've found many stuff here...
If you go around Brest there is many place to visit and detect(each field around Brest)
    good luck!!

      Hello Herle,

Thanks for your response, that sounds very interesting, we are staying at a Chambre d'Hote very close to the Forest. So anywhere within a couple of Kilometres of Brest is worth trying?

      Thanks again.

        Hello Steve,
Huelgoat is a really nice place...http://photos.linternaute.com/paysville/14726/huelgoat/
....where i've found (with others) many items!!! (Only FJ items) because it was HQ of third FJD from february until june 44. The area is still full of items..you can take a chance in the wood maybe you'll find some ERKM or other stuff... Here is a map of Huelgoat Yellow circle show the place where Third FJD was :
1 in Yellow is l'Hotel du lac it was HQ of third FJD
2 in yellow is the old "Hotel d'Angleterre" now closed it was HQ of a regiment of third FJD (near this Hotel two Sherman were knocked down by FJ of second FJD in summer 44)
3 in Yellow was the area where they dropped equipment in the river....
4 in yellow was the area of supply camp of third fjd a little secret, they buried all equipment they couldn't take before leaving the area)

Brest : i can't tell where to go for brest because there is too much to say, and the city is growing on the battlefield... most of place are known by local detectors but i think everybody had a chance especially in the west of the city...
Don't be sad if you don't find anything, some local are looking for items for years...and don't find anything....

If you want a rest from digging and are an admirer of concrete, the U-Boat base at Lorient is an interesting way to spend a few hours.
You might even manage to 'aquire' a piece of genuine German concrete architecture if no-one is looking....

Can anyone just start metal detecting in france at the points you have mentioned? Do you need permission?
                  cheers
